Tyler Leary Captures Sportsman Modified Championship and NASCAR NH State Division 1 Championship
Hudson, NH- While the racing season isn’t over yet the points racing season ended this past Sunday on a beautiful fall New England day. While Tyler Leary entered the day with the MacMulkin Chevrolet Sportsman Modified Championship all wrapped up, the same couldn’t be said for the rest of the divisions. Justin Beecher entered the day with a 26-point lead in the Northeast Auto Imports Super Streets; while Callie Osborne had a 10-point lead in the RaceDayTV Ridge Runners, Steve Miller Sr. was 18 points up in the Granite State Indoor Range Six Shooters points standings, and Carlos Grenier had the smallest points lead in the MLM Diagnostic Services Pure Stocks with a 2 point advantage.
The Granite State Indoor Range Six Shooters kicked off the action for the day as Michael Yeaton in the 25NH took the heat race win. Yeaton entered the day 2nd in the standings needing to gain 18 points on the day. Starting the day off with the heat race win allowed 2 points to be gained. Unfortunately for Yeaton due to the car count once Steve Miller Sr. Took the green in the feature the championship was decided pending tech. With that in mind Yeaton appeared to have only one thing on his mind in the feature and that was to win the race and that’s what he did in a dominate fashion leading green to checkered with no real challenges from anyone. Steve Miller Sr. in the 68 took over the 2nd spot on lap 3 and gave chase of Yeaton but was just never able to get close enough to apply any pressure. Steve Miller Jr. in the 79 fell to third on lap 3 and the handling appeared to be just a little off as he too couldn’t put anything together to challenge the top 2. Yeaton won the battle but Miller Sr. wont the points war!
MLM Diagnostic Services Pure Stocks came into the day with the tightest points battle. Carlos Grenier in the 1NH held a slim 2-point lead over Rookie Bobby Payne in the 17. With 5 wins Grenier held any potential tie breaker over Payne who only had 3 wins on the season. Payne would win heat race number 1 picking up 10 points while Grenier was in heat race number 2. Heat race number was won by Noah McGrath in the 30 and Grenier finished 3rd picking up 6 points. This would shake things up as entering the feature Payne would have a 4-point lead over Grenier. McGrath rocketed out to the lead and would lead every lap, serving two restart to take the win. While the real story line was the early battle between Grenier and Payne for the 3rd spot but a caution on lap 5 would stack the field back up for a restart. Payne and the 71 of Shayla Kirk would make contact in turn 1 and 2 causing Payne to lose numerous spots and shaking up the points battle. At the halfway point the top 5 would be McGrath in 1st, Grenier in 2nd, the 24 of Colton Hull in 3rd, Chris Quin driving the 76 in 4th and Payne in 5th. This would also be how they would run at the checkered flag giving the championship to Grenier by 2 points.
Northeast Auto Imports Super Streets where 3rd in the running order and would see heat races won by Justin Beecher in the 57 and Geoff Rollins in the 02. Beecher would increase his points lead to 30 and with the car count would only need to start the feature and pass post-race tech to be the division champion. Chip Laquire in the 96 and Rollins made up the front row. Rollins would take off with the early race lead, but Beecher would be in tow. Rollins and Beecher pulled away from the field making it a two-car battle for the win. Beecher would wait for his chance and took the lead on lap 16 but a few laps later Rollins would try to take the lead back but would be unsuccessful. Chris Riendeau in the 4VT would battle back from mid race contact to get himself into the 3rd spot on lap 13 from the 10 of Charlie Guerdino. Guerdino wouldn’t go quietly as he would provide pressure for the remaining laps. At the checkered flag it was Beecher in 1st, Rollins in 2nd, Riendeau in 3rd, Guerdino in 4th and Chuck Dehney in the 33W ran a quiet race to finish 5th.
MacMulkin Chevrolet Sportsman Modified’s came into the day with their champion already decided but there was still one battle left to watch and that was who would finish 3rd. While Tyler Leary in the 11x picked up the championship; Todd Warren in the 62 held a 4-point lead over Cole Littlewood in the 73. Littlewood took the heat race win moving himself into a tie with Warren heading into the feature. Littlewood took off to the early lead but lap 3 the caution would fly as the 83g of Hayden Grenier. Littlewood would be joined by Leary on the front row for the restart. Littlewood regained the top spot and would set the car on cruise control as he set a blistering pace on his way to collecting his first modified win! Leary would hold on to finish 2nd and Grenier recovered to finish 3rd.
RaceDayTV Ridge Runners took to the track to close out the regular card of racing. Brian Caswell in the 47 used his heat race win to reduce Callie Osborne’s points lead to just 8 points heading into the feature. Osborne would lead the field to green in her familiar #59 machine. Osborne jumped out to the lead at the drop of the green leading the first 6 circuits before Caswell got by. A mid race restart would see the 2 of Stone Slattery get by Osborne for the 2nd spot. Osborne would need to hold on to the 3rd spot in order to get the championship if Caswell held on to win. Caswell was able to do what he needed to do taking the win; and Slattery held on for 2nd. Mike Dube in the 51 would try to get the 3rd spot from Osborne on the last few laps but Osborne would hold on to finish 3rd and capture the championship!
To close out the evening the 4-cylinder enduros went 50 laps and a 15 lap Flagpole race. The Enduros didn’t disappoint with 25 cars providing racing action all over the track. For most of the race the top 5 were under a blanket swapping position back and forth. As the race laps winded down the 017 of Jon Demanche Jr. took the top spot and started to run away as he took the win! Callie Osborne in the 59 came from half a track back to catch the front runners and finish 2nd and the 297 of Adam Gray was 3rd! Pat Donnelly took the win in the Flagpole race!
